Means to circulate in Amsterdam

The world moves continuously and Amsterdam has understood this better than no other city. People need to travel from one part of the city to another and circulating through Amsterdam turns out to be a terrific experience thanks to the variety of means offered to satisfy this need.

GVB - the transporter of Amsterdam

GVB (Gemeentevervoersbedrijf) is the public transport company in Amsterdam that assures efficient movement for its citizens and the tourist that come to catch a glimpse of Amsterdam’s views. GVB offers three kinds of titles: the OV-chipkaart, the Strippenkaart and the simple ticket.

The GVB also offers facilities for people who want to travel along with their pet, bicycles or have to circulate in a wheel chair. The company does not have a dog travel fee and pets can be easily carried in the established conditions. Bicycles can be carried on the board of metros and trams in the areas designed for that purpose.

The OV-chipkaart

The OV-chipkaart was introduced in Amsterdam at the beginning of last year as a way to only use a single card to pay for public transport. The card offers the advantage that it calculates the correct amount of money you have to pay according to the journey you made.

The Strippenkaart

The old titles are also sold in the GVB stations and at the Tourism Office (VVV). A ticket it’s easy to find in Amsterdam because you can buy one like a Strippenkaart almost anywhere from tram and bus stations to the Albert Heijn supermarkets. You can acquire a one unit ticket at 1, 60 euro, but that is not considered an advantageous choice. The day cards (Dagkaart) offer you the possibility to travel from one to four days in a price range that varies from 7 to 18 euros. They can be used for all the transport means.

The multiple way strip ticket (Strippenkaarten) costs 7, 30 euro and provides you with 15 coupons which are valid on a bus, tram and metro in all Holland except the night bus.
